Locks Heath 2 Petersfield Town 6: PETERSFIELD Town booked their place in the semi finals of the Portsmouth Senior Cup with a resounding win at Locks Heath on Wednesday night.
They go into the hat for the last four draw with AFC Portchester, Moneyfields and Havant and Waterlooville.
The home side felt a big upset was on the cards in this quarter final encounter as the Hampshire Premier League hosts led 1-0 at half time.
But in the end the Southern League visitors proved to be too strong and their six second half strikes took them through to the next round.
Locks Heath took the lead on 21 minutes following a defensive mix up by the Rams. Keeper George Hill raced off his line to deal with a long through ball down the middle but a defender took the ball just as he got to it and then lost possession.
Locks Heath captain Ben Chambers won the ball at a tight angle on the right hand side of the penalty area but he rolled his shot across the goal and inside the far post.
Chambers then had two decent chances to extend the home side’s lead but he fired over and then put the second effort wide of the post when well placed inside the penalty area.
Whatever Petersfield manager John Robson said to his players at half time they responded to as the visitors came roaring out of the blocks for the second half and they equalised on 47 minutes when the ball was crossed in from the right to the far post and Billy Connor tucked his shot away.
Two minutes later Petersfield took the lead when good build up play saw the ball worked into the box and Connor fed the ball to Sean Barnes who fired home from close range.
It was 3-1 after 53 minutes when quick movement down the right opened up the home defence and Ben Neal fired home a shot from the right hand edge of the box into the top corner.
Petersfield got their fourth goal on 64 minutes when Connor latched on to a clearance on the half way line – although many thought he was several yards offside – and raced clear before lifting his shot over keeper Martin Gardiner and into the net.
Locks Heath pulled a goal back two minutes later when Petersfield failed to deal with a ball down the middle. Substitute Nick Moore had his first effort blocked by Hill but he picked himself up off the floor to get to the loose ball first and he rolled his shot into the net.
Barnes tried his luck from the edge of the box for Petersfield but his effort was blocked by the head of Tyler Gill and at the other end Hill made a full length dive to push Chambers’ shot wide of the goal.
Connor completed his hat-trick with seven minutes remaining when he latched on to another ball through the middle. He held off a challenge by a defender before slotting his shot home low into the net.
Petersfield completed the scoring on 86 minutes when Matt Cassaro was brought down on his way through on goal and substitute Ben Buckland made no mistake with his spot kick by burying it into the bottom corner of the net.
Petersfield: Hill, Searle, Graham, Green, Harvey, Geddes, Connor, Cassaro, Neal (Buckland), Wedlake, Barnes. Subs not used: Needham, Brayson.
