PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill admitted there was little that could be done after the Rams had two more matches postponed.

Last Tuesday night’s game against Romsey Town and Saturday’s home match against Hythe and Dibden both fell victim to the wet weather.

“It’s frustrating, but we were probably never going to play on Saturday after all the weather,” said Summerhill.

“We played at New Milton on the previous Saturday and we then trained on the Tuesday, so if no more games are postponed we should be okay.”

Next up for the Rams is a tough-looking trip to a high-flying Hythe and Dibden side next Tuesday night (March 10) in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League (7.45pm).

Hythe look to be well placed for a promotion push, and Summerhill admitted he would happily take a point from the game.

“We will go to Hythe and look to keep it tight,” said the Petersfield manager.

“If we go there and get a point I’ll be over the moon. It would set us up for the next run of games.”

The Rams have picked up some notable results against the league’s high-fliers this season, drawing 1-1 at United Services Portsmouth and winning 2-1 at Bemerton Heath Harlequins, and Summerhill is confident his side can raise their game again.

“These are the sort of games we tend to do well in if we get it right,” he said. “When we’re at it we do very well.

“If they do beat us, we have to make them work for it.

“We’ll go there looking to not get beat. We’ve conceded the fewest goals in the league, so we’ll try to make it tough for them and not give much away.

“We’ll try and stay in the game, and then you never know what might happen.”
