East Cowes Vics 2 Petersfield Town 2: THE RAMS showed great character to come from behind to gain a 92nd-minute equaliser to rescue a point at East Cowes Vics.
The visitors got out of the traps quickly, taking the lead after just 90 seconds. Matt Rowland beat Zak Harris to the ball and displayed good strength to keep possession and run dangerously into the area. He drew the keeper out before squaring the ball to Luca Williams who smashed the Rams into an early lead.
Jordan Geddes nearly doubled Petersfield’s lead, but his shot deflected off the post and back into play.
East Cowes scored an equaliser in the final stages of the first half. The home side won a free kick on the halfway line and Eli Ahmed drove in a deep ball.
Petersfield goalkeeper Jacob Orr came out to punch the ball, but he missed it and collided with his own defender and the ball bounced into the empty net.
The home side took the lead in the second half. A deep corner went to the back post, and Brandon Hayward’s header went into the ground with the bounce looping over the goalkeeper and into the goal, with the attempted clearance on the line arriving too late.
There were four minutes of added time at the end of the match, and Petersfield won a free kick in the home side’s half. Olly Kershaw floated a ball into the area with tall midfielder Bailey Newbury nodding it back across goal for Rowland to get the final touch, flicking it into the net to send the staff and fans into celebration.
