Petersfield Town 0 Alresford Town 7: PETERSFIELD slumped to their second 7-0 home defeat in a row in this Wessex Premier Division match at Love Lane last Tuesday night.
The Rams found themselves 3-0 down after just 15 minutes and 6-0 down by the interval.
Although the flow of goals stopped after half time, Petersfield showed little attacking threat during what proved to be a dismal evening for them.
The first goal for Alresford came on five minutes when former Petersfield player Matt Andrews pounced to fire the ball home from 10 yards out in front of goal.
The second came three minutes later when Stephen Hall was sent clear and he took the ball around Petersfield’s returning goalkeeper Matt Shortt before slotting his shot home into the empty net.
Goal three arrived on the quarter hour mark when a cross from the left found Tom Sands and his header looped up over Shortt and dropped into the corner of the net.
It was 4-0 on 26 minutes when Alresford worked the ball up the left wing before it was played inside to Sands and from the left hand side of the penalty area he curled a shot beyond Shortt and into the far corner of the net.
The fifth goal came three minutes later when quick passing again opened up the home defence and Hall fired a low shot through a crowd of players and into the net.
A miserable first half was completed on 35 minutes when Alresford broke down the right and the ball was played inside to Christopher Mason, who smashed a low shot past Shortt and into the net.
Petersfield created their first chance of note on 39 minutes when a good period of passing play and movement resulted in Luke Kendall firing his effort from the edge of the box high and wide of the target.
In the second half Shortt had to tip a shot from 25 yards out over the crossbar after good build up play by the visitors but Alresford grabbed their seventh goal midway through the half.
After good play down the left, the ball was curled into the path of Sands as he raced towards goal and he shot across Shortt and into the far corner of the net.
Petersfield’s best chance of the game came when substitute Marcus Bedford was put clear of the Alresford defence and keeper Daniel Kempson blocked his shot from close range with his legs.
In the last five minutes Petersfield were caught in possession, which allowed Sands the chance to find some space and Shortt had to get down low to block his shot on target.
Petersfield: Shortt, Wycherley, Kershaw (Geddes), Kennedy, Elward (Johnson), Brown, Powell, Kendall (Bedford), Newman, Tremlett, Essai. Subs not used: Evans, Hill.
