Petersfield Town 0 Egham Town 5: PETERSFIELD Town were soundly beaten by Egham Town in this league encounter at Love Lane last Tuesday night.

The Rams found themselves 4-0 down by half time and they were reduced to ten men during what was another bad day at the office for the Division 1 Central strugglers.

The visitors took the lead after only four minutes when a poor clearance from the home defence landed at the feet of Bajram Pashaj on the edge of the penalty area and he hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.

Egham were two goals up after 18 minutes when the home defence seemed to go missing and a low ball across the face of goal was smashed into the roof of the net from close range by Brendan Matthew.

Matthew got his second goal and Egham’s third on 37 minutes when a long ball down the middle of the pitch saw Rams keeper Lewis Watch race off his line to try and claim it. However, after the ball bounced up off the pitch the Egham striker beat him to it and his header found the unguarded net.

Goal number four came a minute later when Pashaj cut in from the left, rode a challenge and from about eight yards out he lashed home a shot which beat Watch at his near post.

The first half misery for Petersfield wasn’t completed yet – three minutes before half time Elliott Carey headed towards goal from a corner but Watch got across his goal to push the ball away to safety off of the goal line.

Things got more miserable at the beginning of the second half when Josh Wycherley was shown a straight red card for being adjudged to have pulled down an Egham player as he looked to race clear.

Watch then denied Matthew his hat-trick when he diverted his goal bound shot on to the post and then Jordan Berry put his effort wide with the goal at his mercy.

The fifth goal eventually came on 67 minutes when Egham burst through down the middle and although Watch saved the first shot on goal, Matthew tucked away the rebound to complete his hat-trick.

Chances were few and far between for Petersfield but Stuart Green forced keeper Jamie Norris to push his shot from ten yards out around the post on 74 minutes.

Petersfield: Watch, Edwards, Graham, Awford (Chunga), Woodford, Wycherley, Andrews (Codling), Green, Connor, M Smith, Cripps. Subs not used: Collins.
