Bemerton Heath Harlequins 4 Petersfield Town 1: PETERSFIELD Town suffered more away day woes as they fell to defeat at Bemerton on Saturday.
In their last three away matches the Rams have taken the lead but on each occasion they have gone on to be beaten by the home side in the second half.
Somewhat against the run of play at Bemerton the visitors took the lead in the 24th minute. Billy Connor was sent tumbling inside the penalty area under a challenge and Danny Thompson made no mistake with his spot kick.
Any hopes Petersfield had that they were finally going to string a run of winning form together were extinguished by the home side grabbing two quick goals – firstly a penalty by Seb Dawes followed by another goal scored by Jack Slade.
There was everything still to play for in the second half and Connor went close to getting the Rams back on level terms.
However, Petersfield struggled to make much of an impression as the half wore on and on 70 minutes Jordan Matthews scored to extend the home side’s lead.
Bemerton added a fourth goal through Jake Rawkins in the closing minutes to give the scoreline a more emphatic look to it.
Petersfield now have only 10 league games left to save themselves. Their next three games are at home but they will need at least six points from that trio of matches to give themselves any realistic hopes of avoiding a bottom place finish in the Wessex Premier Division.
