PETERSFIELD Town are heading into the 2018-19 season experiencing some of football’s nice problems for a change.
The Rams have had to endure all manner of issues during the last two seasons which brought back to back relegations – taking the club from the Southern League back down to the Sydenhams Wessex League Division 1.
The last few years have been painful ones to endure for everyone connected to the club but, according to manager Mark Summerhill, there are now clear signs Petersfield are about to emerge from their downward spiral.
The Rams’ boss still has headaches picking his team but now they are of a different kind – having around 50 players regularly attending pre-season training, trying to keep the current 24-man first team squad happy and keeping people’s feet firmly on the floor as expectations of better times start to grow around the SureFix Home Improvements Stadium.
“My thoughts are pretty optimistic going into the new season but, at the same time, I don’t want people to start getting carried away,” said the Petersfield boss. “I’m having to manage expectations as some people think we will do very well this season but, after the last couple of seasons, I’m looking to stabilise things here before we move forward.”
There are plenty of new signings to look out for, including Richard Covey from Liphook, Ryan Gill, Kris Stephens and Michael Wright.
