It’s the goal which stops the goal of the season competition before it even really started - and 201 people who were at the Emirates FA Cup tie between Petersfield Town and Weymouth are lucky enough to have witnessed it.

As one fan described Joe Briggs’ 45 yard wonder goal for Petersfield on Saturday - it was worth the entrance fee just to see that.

The Rams won a free kick just inside the Weymouth half and Briggs decided to take the kick.

The infamous Love Lane slope gave him a slight advantage over Weymouth goalkeeper Jason Matthews as the Rams midfielder was standing a yard or two higher up the pitch than the keeper.

When Briggs initially hit the strike it looked like it was nothing more than a floated cross into the box where his team mates were waiting to pounce.

But after travelling 20 yards or so you could see the ball was heading towards the far corner of the goal. It appeared that Matthews lost the flight of the ball and as it dropped it was heading straight into the top corner of the net.

The Weymouth keeper could only help it on its way into the net - as our picture from Post photographer Innes Marlow shows.

Anyone who was there would tell you just what an incredible goal it was. You will have to go some to see a better goal than that anywhere in football this season.

The only shame is that no one was there with a video camera to catch the moment on camera so more people could enjoy it.
