ONE OF Petersfield Town’s Emirates FA Cup heroes has been in sparkling form during this season’s historic run for the club.

And Joe Briggs is hoping that good run continues on Saturday so that he can help to fire the Rams into the Fourth Qualifying Round of the world’s most famous cup competition.

Briggs has already netted three goals during Petersfield Town’s best ever run in the competition – including a stunning 45-yard free kick against Weymouth which had the crowd of over 200 at Love Lane purring with delight that day.

The midfielder has now set his sights on another famous day in the cup and he fully believes his team can see off the challenge of St Albans City on Saturday.

“Reaching the Third Qualifying Round is certainly the furthest I’ve gone in my playing career in the FA Cup for sure,” explained Briggs.

“My best two performances personally this season have been the last two rounds of the competition, so let’s hope the same happens again.

“I think if we play like we did in the Weymouth and Cirencester games then we’ve got a massive chance of going through again, especially at home because they (St Albans) are not going to like coming down to our pitch.

“Then, hopefully, we will get a winnable home game after that then who knows who we could get in the First Round Proper.”

The Emirates FA Cup has certainly brought some sunshine to a season which has been clouded by poor form in the Evo-Stik League Southern Division 1 Central so far this campaign for Petersfield Town.

No one at the club is reaching for the panic button just yet but the Rams find themselves second from bottom in the table, despite the glory of their cup run.

The importance of getting results in league games is not lost on Briggs, who is hoping Petersfield can take a league win into their preparations for the weekend when they take on Ware at Love Lane this evening (Wednesday).

Briggs added: “The cup run has been brilliant as it’s the only bit of joy we’re having at the moment after a couple of bad results in the league.

“We don’t know why but we seem to be saving our best performances for the cup at the moment.

“Hopefully, we will get a result in the league against Ware so confidence is high for Saturday.”
