Newport IOW 2 Petersfield Town 0: BUOYED by two straight wins, the Rams travelled to Newport last Saturday in confident mood.

Josh Sheehan brought a save from keeper Ryan Hall and further chances fell to Harry Giles and Richard Covey as the Rams continued to have the upper hand but they could not turn their dominance into goals.

In the 40th minute Newport opened the scoring with a shot from Jared Wetherick.

After Gari Judd had missed a chance to equalise, Newport got their second on 72 minutes when Spike Pearce headed in from a corner.

Petersfield are in FA Cup action tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to Southern League outfit Fleet Town in the Preliminary Round.

The Rams will be looking to be cup giant killers against a side two levels above them.

On Tuesday night the Rams are at home to Christchurch in the Sydenhams League Cup (7.45pm).
