THE FIRST half was poor and the game was scrappy in general but Petersfield Town got three points and that’s all that mattered to them.

A?tricky trip to bottom of the table side North Greenford United threatened to turn into a nightmare on Saturday when the Rams went in at half time trailing 1-0.

But a fast start to the second half saw them score an equaliser after just five minutes and they got what proved to be the winner midway through the half.

For manager Ian Saunders his side have only completed part one of two must-win matches in Division 1 Central.

The visitors to Love Lane this Saturday are Leighton Town, who are second from bottom in the table.

Another three points this weekend would put further space between the Rams and the relegation zone and allow them to focus on climbing up the table going into the busy Christmas period.

Saunders said: “I’m really pleased we got the three points on Saturday. It was absolutely crucial to our season to get a win against the bottom side.

“North Greenford played well and made life difficult for us in what were difficult conditions but the players dug in to get the victory.

“We need to do the same now this Saturday when we play Leighton Town.

“I’m sure it won’t be a pretty game as they will come to us hoping to battle their way to victory but we must show the same fight and desire as we did on Saturday.”
