PETERSFIELD Town’s reserve team will be aiming to secure a league and cup double on Friday night.

While the first team have struggled badly in the Southern League this season, the Rams’ second string have already captured the Wyvern League’s Division 1 East title and now they are aiming to add the Wyvern League’s Challenge Cup to the Love Lane trophy cabinet.

The reserves, led by manager Shane Brayson, face AFC Stoneham in the cup final tomorrow (Friday) night at Hythe and Dibden FC – the game will kick-off at 7.45pm.

They secured the league title last Wednesday night (April 26) with a 5-1 victory over their closest rivals for the title, Baffins Milton Rovers.

Petersfield went 2-0 up before Ryan Kennedy was shown a red card shortly before half time.

However, Baffins were unable to make their numerical advantage count as the Rams extended their lead in the second period.

Petersfield’s goals were scored by Will Essai, Harry Giles, Luke Kendall, Kennedy and Mike Newman.

The Rams completed their league season at Bosham on Saturday with a 1-0 win. Kendall secured the three points with his second half penalty and Petersfield’s captain Kennedy was presented with the Division 1 East shield after the final whistle.

Petersfield’s first team are busy preparing for the Portsmouth Senior Cup final at Fratton Park on May 23 against Ryman Premier Division champions Havant and Waterlooville (ko 7.30pm).
