Kings Langley 2 Petersfield Town 0: PETERSFIELD Town’s five game unbeaten run came to a disappointing end at Kings Langley on Saturday.

The home side coped with the poor weather conditions of a blustery wind and driving rain better than the visitors, who conceded two goals on the road for the third match running.

This time though the Rams gave their hosts too much of a head start and they struggled to mount a comeback against a resolute defence in the second half.

Kings Langley took the lead on 15 minutes after a Petersfield attack broke down. Lorenzo Ferrari picked up the ball on the edge of his own penalty area and was allowed to run the full length of the pitch unchallenged.

Jamie Ford tried to tackle him on the edge of the box but the home player avoided the challenge before running on and placing his shot past keeper Anthony Ender.

The home side doubled their lead six minutes later after good play on the left allowed them to cut inside the penalty area and fire off a shot, which Ender got down well to save but Steve Ward was following up and he picked up the loose ball and fired it into the net.

Petersfield had their best chance of the first half on 34 minutes when Alek Przespolewski picked up the ball in midfield and played the perfect through ball to his right as Dominic Cope burst into the penalty area. Cope’s shot beat keeper Xavi Comas but it also went well wide of the post.

The home side then lost Comas to injury on the stroke of half time in bizarre circumstances. He came out to claim a cross but he didn’t seem to catch the ball correctly and he had to go off with a badly dislocated finger.

Any hopes the Rams had that an outfield player would be forced to take over in goal were soon extinguished as Kings Langley had a keeper on the bench in the form of Ant Ladyman.

The home side had two good chances to close out the game in the opening minutes of the second half. Mitchell Weiss received the ball in space on the edge of the box after a quick passing move but his rising shot went wide.

He then had another chance to score when he was put clean through after another Petersfield move broke down in midfield but this time his shot was blocked by Ender’s legs.

Petersfield should have got on the scoresheet on 56 minutes when the home defence failed to deal with a ball through the middle and Przespolewski seized on it. He allowed the ball to roll past Ladyman before hitting a low shot towards goal which Callum Adebiyi managed to get to and slide it clear off the line.

The Rams had more of the play during the second period but their final ball into the box wasn’t good enough to create the chances that would have got them back into the game.

Eight minutes from the end a corner from the right found substitute Gary Norgate and his downward header was hacked clear off the line before the follow up was skied well over the top.

Petersfield: Ender, Searle, Wain, Thompson (Neal), Sackman, Ford, Briggs, Przespolewski, Neighbour (Norgate), Richardson, Cope (Coleman-Carr). Subs not used: Hyde, Read.
