PETERSFIELD Town made it consecutive draws in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League after a goalless afternoon against Andover Town at Love Lane on Saturday.

In the cold December conditions the Rams built up play from the back, resulting in a quick interchange between Ryan Kennedy and Michael Wright before Kennedy flicked the ball wide.

Andover posed their own threat as Thomas Pattison worked a yard of space on the edge of the area. His effort was curling into the top corner until Matt Petts extended his right arm and tipped the ball over the bar.

Petersfield’s Matt Low then received a ball over the top of the Andover backline and closed in on goal, but visiting keeper Dave Tasker easily blocked his effort.

Moments before half time Andover were denied the lead by the linesman. Joshua Bertie latched on to a lofted ball, volleying into the top corner from outside the area, but his effort was chalked off.

Throughout the second half both teams tried to force the breakthrough but they gave possession away far too easily.

Andover’s Howard Nhemachena saw red in the 58th minute after diving in two footed on Cam Smith. The referee waited a moment before showing Nhemachena the straight red.

In the 61st minute Smith lunged in with his studs up on an Andover defender, however, the referee only showed him a yellow card, to the dismay of the visiting fans.

The Rams were defensively solid throughout the match and comfortably dealt with another Andover breakaway.

As time went on Petersfield looked like they could steal a winner. Ollie Kershaw flicked on a delicate cross and Jordan Neal went up with a defender in his way. The ball fell for Marvin Orepo with just the keeper to beat, but he couldn’t connect properly with the ball and the attack fizzled out.

The Rams were denied a penalty late on when the ball was flicked up in the penalty area and appeared to make contact with an Andover defender’s arm.

The home side were unable to make a breakthrough, and had to settle for their first goalless draw of the season.
