PETERSFIELD Town manager Ian Saunders believes there is plenty to be positive about, despite his side’s latest setback at the weekend.

The Rams boss saw his team in action for the first time in five weeks when they lost 2-0 in the wind and rain at Kings Langley on Saturday afternoon.

But despite taking a somewhat back seat role on the day compared to his usual involvement, Saunders saw enough to believe his players have what it takes to flourish at this level.

“I can see a positive future for us in this league,” he said. “There is a lot we can take from this defeat.

“The players are settling down now after our promotion and we kept persevering on Saturday and it was disappointing to come away with nothing.”

Saunders watched the game from the stands as he eased his way back from his enforced break from the club due to Army commitments.

With his side on a five-match unbeaten run, he also felt he didn’t want to disturb whatever it was which had helped the team go on the run of form while he was away.

Letting his coaching staff get on with the touchline tasks also allowed him to get a different perspective on the game.

He added: “I wanted to watch and re-evaluate things after being away. If we had taken an early chance, it might have been a very different game for us.

“We didn’t feel we deserved to be two goals down and our second half performance was much better.”
