Petersfield Town 0 Amesbury Town 3: THREE quickfire goals in the second half won the game for Amesbury despite a solid performance from the Rams against the league leaders at Love Lane on Saturday.

Petersfield were the better side at the start of the game and Matt Rowland shot into the side netting from a narrow angle.

Amesbury’s only threats in the first half came from free kicks. However, they didn’t make the most of their opportunities and the first half ended goalless.

The second half started in dramatic fashion as Petersfield’s penalty appeals for a shove in the back were waved away.

Amesbury took the lead when the ball was laid off and Jordan Matthews stroked the ball past Matt Shortt and into the bottom corner.

The visitors scored their second when a corner was swung in and the ball fell to Michael Owen, who half volleyed it into the net.

Amesbury finished off Petersfield’s hopes when a fine passing move ended with Jordon Mathews turning in the area and drawing a foul to win a penalty.

Jordon Mathews converted the penalty he won in the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 3-0.

The Rams kept plugging away though and Rowland put a header just wide from close range.

Amesbury had an opportunity to score a fourth goal when a long ball found Kieran Stephens, who held up the ball before chipping it into the area to George Plank, who fired a strong volley into Shortt’s arms.
