REBUILDING and stability – two key words to describe what is needed at Petersfield Town as they kick off the new football season.
The Rams are looking to recover from being the worst team in the country at step four level last season – they finished with only nine points from 42 matches in the Southern League’s Division 1 Central.
After a settled pre-season build up under new manager Jim Macey, the Rams look in good shape going into their season curtain raiser against Baffins Milton Rovers at Love Lane next Tuesday night (August 1, kick-off 7.45pm).
However, Macey has warned that there is still plenty of work to be done at Petersfield if the club is going to fully recover from the doom and gloom of last season’s trials and tribulations.
“Petersfield as a club had a poor season in the Southern League and a lot of players have left the club,” said Macey. “My job is to now rebuild the side.
“With the help of my assistant manager Shane Brayson, head coach Tim Farmer and coach Mark Summerhill we are hopeful of putting some decent performances together.”
Despite a positive pre-season campaign, feet are firmly staying on the ground at Love Lane in terms of predictions.
Macey added:?“We need to get the club back to some stability both on and off the pitch and our first aim is to try our best to keep Petersfield in the Wessex Premier Division and then try and finish as high as possible.”
