Amesbury Town 3 Petersfield Town 1: PETERSFIELD Town lost out in the battle of the basement sides during their trip to Amesbury on Saturday.

In comparison to the home side, the Rams were woefully short of the effort and desire displayed by their hosts, who showed much more hunger for the three points than the visitors.

Petersfield started brightly but they found themselves a goal behind after ten minutes.

Amesbury found room on the right wing and after cutting inside towards the box the ball was flicked on to Jake Allen who tucked his shot past keeper Luke Eaton.

The visitors made an appalling start to the second half when they conceded their second goal just 40 seconds after kick-off. Connor Millar seized possession of the ball in midfield and drove in behind the Petersfield defence before squaring the ball across goal to Luke Greenway, who slammed his shot into an unguarded net from ten yards out.

Amesbury got their third goal on 65 minutes. Keeper Paddy Creese’s long punt downfield found Millar lurking on the edge of the penalty area and the Amesbury man’s first touch flicked the ball over the advancing Eaton and it dropped into the empty net.

The Rams pulled a goal back on 86 minutes when Liam Gouge flicked the ball on inside the box to Olly Kershaw who was brought down as he went past a defender.

Luke Kendall sent the keeper diving the wrong way with his spot kick fired into the bottom corner.
