Petersfield Town 0 AFC Stoneham 0: THE RAMS showed good resilience to earn a point against high-flying AFC Stoneham on Saturday.

Petersfield’s Matt Rowland had an early chance, but his volley went into the Stoneham keeper’s arms.

Rowland had another chance when he sprinted through the Stoneham defence but his shot went wide.

The first half was very even, but Stoneham passed the ball around quicker than the home side and looked more likely to score.

Stoneham almost took the lead when Chris Manning whipped in a ball from the right, but Alex Welch’s header glanced just wide.

The Rams improved in the second half and closed down the opposition, forcing the keeper to make a few errors with his distribution.

The game became more feisty and Manning was booked for a strong challenge on Jordan Geddes.

Both sides struggled to break each other down in the second half and resorted to long balls for their quick attackers.

Stoneham had a good chance to take the lead late on when Sergio Caballero’s corner was met by Matt Palmer, but his shot was well held by Rams keeper Nick Hall.

Petersfield had an excellent chance to win the game in the last minute of added time when Bailey Newbury and Marvin Orepo linked up well. Newbury picked up the ball and muscled off two defenders and slotted a pass to an unmarked Orepo, but his shot went high and wide from close range.
