PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill is delighted with his side after they picked up two wins in the past week.

The Rams returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory at Cowes Sports in the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup last Tuesday night, thanks to goals from Harry Bedford (2), Marvin Orepo and Jordan Neal.

Petersfield then won 3-0 at home to Totton and Eling in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League on Saturday, with Bedford, Matt Low and Jordan Geddes on target.

“It was a really important week for us after two defeats,” said Summerhill.

“It was a good, solid, performance against Totton and Eling and a clean sheet.

“It was quite a tight first half. We started better, and Matt Low missed a good chance.

“We were well on top, but we got in at 0-0 at half time.

“We had shaded it, but I was concerned we were not going to take our chances and it was going to cost us.

“I thought once we scored it would be anything. If we had scored earlier in the game it could have been five or six.

“Once the first goal went in it was never in doubt.

“Charlie Merritt came on and played well, and he’s settled in really well.”

The Rams claimed another Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division scalp this season when they beat Cowes Sports, and their reward is a trip to National League side Eastleigh in the third round of the Hampshire Senior Cup.

“Cowes was another really good scalp for us this season,” said Summerhill.

“Cowes are really physical, and there was a decent crowd who were quite hostile.

“The Eastleigh game will be the highest-ranked opposition we’ve played against.”

One bit of bad news for the Rams is that key midfielder Harry Bedford has left the club and joined Division One rivals United Services Portsmouth.

Bedford’s final game for the club was Saturday’s win against Totton and Eling.

“Harry announced it after the game and it was a complete shock,” said Summerhill.

“We’ve got Cam Smith and Ryan Kennedy in that midfield area. They are very physical and are a really good pairing.”

Summerhill still has plenty to be pleased about, and is happy his side are winning games convincingly.

He said: “We are now winning games comfortably. We’ve conceded the fewest goals in the league and our goal difference is quickly improving.”
