PETERSFIELD Town manager Ian Saunders is more than happy with the draws his side have been handed in the FA Cup and FA Trophy.

The Rams boss believes the ties will prove to be a tough test for his players but they are games the club are capable of winning to make progress in both competitions.

Petersfield will hope to emulate their record breaking run in the FA Cup again, when they reached the third qualifying round of the competition last season. They face a trip to either Hellenic League Division 1 West side Fairford Town or CB Hounslow United, who play in the Combined Counties League Premier Division, in the preliminary round on August 20.

In the FA Trophy, the Rams face a trip to familiar foes, Southern League Division 1 South and West outfit Winchester City, in the preliminary round stage of the competition on October 8.

Winchester beat the Rams 3-1 at Love Lane at the same stage of the competition last season.

The winners of that tie travel to Southern League Division 1 Central side Fleet Town or Southern League Division 1 South and West team Bideford in the first qualifying round.

Saunders said: “There are no easy draws in any of the national competitions but I am happy with the matches we will be playing.

“In the FA Cup, I know nothing about the two sides we could be playing but I will do by the time that fixture comes around as we will have them watched and scouted.”
