PETERSFIELD Town captain Olly Searle has set out the reasons behind his “tough decision” to leave the club.

The Rams’ skipper announced last Tuesday night (January 10) that he was leaving the club following the 2-1 defeat at AFC Portchester.?

Searle, who made almost 40 appearances for the club last season and has played in more than 30 games this term, said he felt the time was right for him to find a new challenge.

He explained:?“Sometimes you have to be a little selfish and do what’s right for you. I’ve had more good times than bad up at Petersfield.

“I?gained a lot of experience at a decent level of football. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I?felt it was time for a new challenge for me.”

Rams fans were quick to praise their departing skipper when they heard the news. David Ayre said: “Really sorry to see you go Olly. Thanks and good luck for your future.”

Paul Greenaway added:?“A huge thanks to Olly for all his hard work and support.

“Gutted to see him go after a great spell at the club – stood up for the cause when needed. All the best for the future.” Searle has now signed for Winchester.

Other Rams departures in the last few weeks has seen midfielder Harry Wedlake sign for National League South outfit Gosport Borough and Alex Miroy has moved to Paulsgrove and then on to AFC?Portchester.

The Rams will play Moneyfields at home in the semi-finals of the Portsmouth Senior Cup.
