HORNDEAN have moved up to fourth place in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division after picking up two wins in the last week.

The Deans won 5-1 at Newport IOW last Tuesday night, thanks to goals from Jack Maloney (2), Mark Smith, Harry Jackson and Dan Sackman.

Aidan Sainsbury was on target for the home side.

The Five Heads Park outfit then won 1-0 at home to Hamble Club on Saturday afternoon thanks to Tyler Moret’s goal.

Horndean manager Michael Birmingham is pleased with his side’s results.

“I’m ecstatic,” said Birmingham. “We had a game plan against Hamble. They (Hamble) are a big physical side and they are very direct. We had to minimise the number of set plays we gave away.

“We were very good and our defending started from the front. Their keeper had a couple of saves to make and it was a tight game.

“Against Newport we were missing a few players and we weren’t great in the first half, but we were better in the second half.”
