PETERSFIELD Town captain Ryan Woodford has spoken of it being a big honour to lead the club this season into their new Southern League adventure.
Back-to-back title wins and promotions from the Wessex League led to the club being accepted into step four level football this season and the Rams were handed a place in the Evo-Stik League Southern Division 1 Central.
Ever since he first visited the ground in the close season to meet manager Ian Saunders and his assistant manager Jason Hampson, Woodford has been convinced Petersfield Town is the right club for him.
“Being captain is special at any club, at any level, so it’s an honour to lead the club this season in our first ever year at this level,” Woodford explained.
“Having had back-to-back promotions and with a great squad technically and socially, it’s been a pleasure so far this season and I’ve been made to feel very welcome by the lads, staff and fans at the club.
“Being at Petersfield came about over the summer when the gaffer contacted me. Having come down for a meeting at Love Lane, I knew within two minutes it was the place for me this season.
“The passion, style of play and desire to succeed and achieve big things at the club were a huge part of me signing on.”
Woodford has brought plenty of experience with him to the Rams’ ranks for the campaign.
The midfielder’s previous clubs include Horsham, Worthing, Andover and Eastleigh. He was also captain of the England Colleges team.
