AS PETERSFIELD Town prepare for their historic first season in the Evo-Stik League Southern, manager Ian Saunders declared – we fear no one.

The Rams boss issued his rallying call as the club gets ready for its first game at step four level of the non-league football system.

Petersfield travel to many people’s favourites to win the Division 1 Central title – AFC?Rushden and Diamonds – today (Saturday) to make their Southern League debut.

But the manager has urged his players not to fear going to a ground where a crowd of at least 700-800 people is expected or to fear playing an outfit who used to be in the Football League.

“We have to play with no fear and not worry about the opposition,”?said Saunders.

“We need to go out and express ourselves in this league – after all it has been key to the success we have enjoyed in the last few seasons and it got us to where we are now.

“It’s going to be a tough season because we have stepped up to a much higher level than we are used to.

“But I’m really pleased with who we have brought in and we will fear nobody, whoever we face.”

Bookmakers have made the Rams rank outsiders to grab their third title in a row – but that may well work in their favour.

No one fancied them to win the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division last season. With little focus on Petersfield from elsewhere in the division, they may well be a surprise package again.
