Guildford City 0 Petersfield Town 1: PETERSFIELD Town travelled to Guildford City, who play one tier above them in the Combined Counties Premier Division, in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup last Saturday.

They put in an excellent performance to win 1-0 and move into the next round of the competition.

After an even start, Guildford applied pressure with a series of corners but the Rams’ defence comfortably dealt with these.

In the 20th minute Petersfield created the best chance of the game so far when Ryan Gill’s cross was headed wide by Jordan Neal.

Two minutes later they had another good chance when a shot from Luke Payne went over the bar.

They took the lead in the 35th minute when Josh Sheehan’s cross found Olly Kershaw, whose well directed shot beat home keeper Liam Beach.

Guildford had the lion’s share of possession in the second half but the Rams continued to defend well to restrict them to half chances, while keeping the home defence on their toes with attacks on the break.

It was only in the final 15 minutes that Guildford really threatened, with their best chance being a 77th-minute effort which was well saved by Tim Jackson, and a 90th minute free kick that was deflected wide.

The Rams were not to be denied, however, and they held on to earn a trip to Fleet Town in the next round on August 25.
