FOREST of Bere Bowmen of Horndean have held their annual Crookhorn Shoot, and 142 archers took part.

The main hall at the Mountbatten Centre was filled to capacity by archers from Hampshire, Dorset, Sussex and Surrey competing for a variety of medals and trophies.

The archery took place in three sessions, with some archers shooting a single session and others shooting doubles. Seniors, juniors, males, females, disabled and non-disabled were all shooting together.

The archer supreme or overall winner of the recurve archers was Peter Parsons of Waterside in the New Forest, and second was Phil Spanner of Forest of Bere Bowmen.

The winner of the ladies’ trophy was Janice Reynolds from Poole.

Kristian Driver from Talisman, a Fareham club, was the winner of the juniors’ double round, with Rebecca Giddings of Forest of Bere Bowmen in second place and Rehina Coxen of Havant and Hayling in third place.

Another Waterside archer, Lee Miller, won the gents’ compound double trophy, but Pat Hotchkiss of Forest of Bere was the winning lady.

The disabled winner for a single session was Jon Flint of Petersfield, but Stewart Champion of Chichester won the double.

This year there were far more archers who shoot a recurve without a sight.

Of these barebow archers most of the medals went to members from Portsdown Archers and the Royal Navy South Coast club.

The longbow winners came from Southampton and Chichester.

Of the team prizes, the compound winners were Wight Bowmen and the recurve ones were Sarah Lupton, Phil Spanner, John Taylor and Tim Madden of Forest of Bere Bowmen.

Particularly thrilled were the second-placed team from Southsea of Gemma Gifford, Sonnie Emeney, Stuart Hardman and Mark James, who had never entered a team event before and beat teams from four other clubs.
