Trojans Veterans 4 Petersfield Veterans 4: AFTER a credible performance the previous week against a strong Andover side that saw Casabianca’s goal take the win in the dying moments, Petersfield faced a sterner test against Trojans.

Petersfield started brightly but the final ball went astray and shots went just wide or were well saved by the Trojans keeper. At the other end, two penalty corners given away by last ditch defending saw Trojans go two up after 20 minutes. Petersfield continued to attack in an even game, but a defensive lapse just before half time saw the home side go 3-0 up at the break.

The second half started much as the first had finished, with Petersfield huffing and puffing but Trojans more clinical, and after five minutes a sumptuous move finished unopposed at the far post saw the home side take a 4-0 lead.

Petersfield started to dominate the game and the pressure told when Cleife drove down the right and passed the ball with pace across the top of the D to find Wilson, and his first-time drive found the net. A couple of penalty corners went unconverted, but Petersfield halved the deficit through Pruden’s trademark drift left from Hulme’s through-ball and devastating finish.

Petersfield attacked again down the right through Cleife, and his pass was converted by Wilson, diving at full stretch. The comeback was completed by Cleife dancing through the defence on the left, rounding the keeper and giving Pruden a straightforward finish to make it 4-4.
