Petersfield Ladies II 4 Bournemouth Ladies V 2: FOLLOWING a heavy defeat in their previous match, Petersfield Hockey Club’s ladies’ second team started against Bournemouth Ladies’ fifth team with only nine players.
The hosts were soon on the attack with a short corner after five minutes, and their first goal of the season was taken well by Zoe Simmonds after ten minutes.
Pressure followed from Bournemouth as they looked to make their extra numbers count, but Lauren Preston was solid in defence all game and repelled the visitors’ attacking passes as they came into the Petersfield area.
It was Petersfield’s turn to attack on 22 minutes with an excellent run to the right baseline from Izzy Wiles on her debut, and Simmonds scored her second goal of the game.

Bournemouth looked to attack and hit the post on 31 minutes before finally getting their own breakthrough just before half time when the ball hit Carys Pearson’s glove before spinning back into the goal.
Petersfield were up to ten players in the second half with the inclusion of Evie Owsnett.
Wiles grew in confidence in the second half and combined a number of times with Delyth Powell to cut through the Bournemouth defence.
Petersfield’s third goal came from such a run when Wiles went past two Bournemouth defenders before rounding the goalkeeper and scoring.
Bournemouth were not lying down and came back strongly with another period of attacking possession. Their second goal came in the middle of the half from a well-struck short corner to the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.
With ten minutes to go Wiles broke through the defence again and drew the keeper before passing to Sheena Hulme to score Petersfield’s fourth goal of the game.
Bournemouth pushed numbers forward and had their own two-on-one in the dying seconds, only for the pass to go wide.
A solid game all round from Petersfield Ladies’ second team, with an excellent debut from Wiles. The first goals and first win of the season move Petersfield off the bottom of the Hampshire Division 4 (Women) table.
