FROXFIELD’S Lizzie Allen won double bronze and one silver at the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships.

Lizzie (14) travelled to Nova Scotia in Canada to represent Great Britain in the ninth Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships, which took place over a seven-day competition.

She competed alongside 200 swimmers from 25 nations, and has returned home with two bronze medals and a silver, helping Britain to secure second place overall.

Lizzie, who represents Alton and District Swimming Club, said: “Representing Great Britain was amazing, and it was fantastic competing against swimmers from around the world.

“My next big event will be the Europeans and I’m aiming for gold.”

Coach Robin Nettlebrook said: “With Lizzie’s commitment and determination, she certainly deserves this success.”

Lizzie’s mother, Kate Allen, is proud of her daughter’s achievements.

Kate said: “We went with the Great Britain team to Nova Scotia, and Lizzie was one of the youngest members of the team.

“The championships were really well organised and it felt like an Olympics. It was a very professional event.

“Lizzie is hoping to make the step up from Down Syndrome swimming to para swimming, which would open up a lot more events.

“She is hoping to take part in a national para swimming event in December, and then the Europeans in Sardinia next year.”
