ALTON Hockey Club has launched a campaign for a £50,000 fundraising project to allow the club to help build a new all-weather hockey pitch at Eggar’s School.

The new pitch will allow the club to continue to provide training for the rapidly expanding junior section as well as provide pitches for adult team matches.

The club currently uses Amery Hill School’s pitch, but due to the limitations on usage at the weekend and the lack of floodlights, the juniors have extremely limited training space on a Saturday morning and sometimes have to forego training altogether so the adult teams can play league matches, a requirement they have to fulfil to remain in the league and further the club’s already impressive progress at adult team level.

The club is working closely with Eggar’s to secure a Sport England bid for a grant to build a new pitch with floodlights and has committed to raising £50,000 towards the project over the coming months.

Anyone keen to help with a fundraising activity or who would like to donate money to the cause should visit the fundraising website at www.pushforapitch.co.uk or contact fundraising committee member Sig Watkins by e-mailing [email protected] or calling 07595 984476.

Humbly Grove Energy have donated the funds to Alton Hockey Club to purchase a defibrillator which has been given to Amery Hill School to maintain and look after it. The equipment was installed on the outside of the changing facilities for school, sport and community use.
