WITH a traditional invite to next year’s Masters at Augusta awaiting Scott Gregory, and an exemption into the 2017 US Open already secured while he remains an amateur, his schedule for the next 12 months is largely mapped out.

With the likes of Masters champion Danny Willett, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Andy Sullivan having already become multiple winners on the European Tour – and all three could make their Ryder Cup debuts at Hazeltine, in September – off the back of glittering amateur careers capped by an appearance in the Walker Cup, the choices Scott faces are fairly well defined. The 21-year-old, who led the Open briefly last Thursday morning, is bound to attract offers from the big management companies to turn professional – possibly even before the year is out – but it would take an extraordinary turn of events for the carrot of playing in the Masters to be spurned by Scott.
