CORHAMPTON’S Scott Gregory is looking to earn his first full international cap for England in 2016 after a blistering start to his season wearing the Cross of St George in Spain.
The England A squad member teamed up in foursomes with Wiltshire’s Ben Amor, his regular roommate and practice partner when on England duty.
They produced a devastating partnership in the quadrangular match at Costa Ballena against Germany, Finland and hosts Spain.
The pair were unbeaten in the alternate-shot format in three matches and both players only lost one of their three singles matches.
Amor and Gregory even claimed the scalp of Germany’s 2014 Junior Ryder Cup player Max Schmitt, and playing partner Timo Vahlenkamp, winning on the last morning of day two as England went on to win 7-2.
In the title-decider 24 hours later, they teamed up to beat Spain’s Borja Torre Martin and Ingio Benaran 3 &1.
Gregory then beat the former 5&3 in the afternoon singles as England made it a hat-trick of 7-2 victories.
Gregory said: “I’ve taken a lot from Costa Ballena and have some good things to work on leading up to the Portuguese and Spanish Amateur Championships.”
Gregory will be in action at the Portuguese Amateur at Montado, which gets under way on February 11.
The action then swings back to the Spanish Amateur at Sherry Golf, in Jerez, two weeks later.
