PETERSFIELD Golf Club player Lyn Criddle won the prestigious England Women’s Par 3 Team Championship at Ampfield Golf Club near Romsey.

Criddle, who plays off a handicap of 22, won with a net score of 52, three ahead of the field and only two behind the lowest score so far recorded in this unique tournament.

The annual championship consists of 18 holes of stroke play and 84 lady golfers from several counties competed this year in 28 teams of three.

Criddle pulled off a double triumph as she and her Petersfield team-mates Di Brooks and Sue Gray, who were also two of the top ten best scorers, won the team event by eight strokes.

They all play regularly at the Petersfield Golf Club at Tankerdale Lane.

Criddle said: “It was such a lovely day all round and one to remember.

“To win the team event was fantastic and I thank my playing partners Di and Sue for their great play and support.

“I am delighted too with winning the championship – as most amateur golfers will know, days like that are few and far between!”

Privately-owned Ampfield Golf Club was founded in the early 1960s and was the original 18-hole par-three course in the country.

The course was designed by three-times major winner and legendary golfer Sir Henry Cotton.
