Petersfield 7 Isle of Wight 2: PETERSFIELD extended their unbeaten run at home with a comprehensive victory against the Isle of Wight.
The home side took the lead when Atkinson unleashed a powerful strike into the right-hand corner.
Petersfield continued to attack and found themselves 2-0 up after Grinstead’s lifted strike was out of the visiting goalkeeper’s reach.
The home side added a further two goals to their tally with Grinstead adding a second to his name and Harris adding the fourth goal with a reverse strike after his initial drag-flick was saved.
The Isle of Wight responded with a barrage of attacks. Marlow made a goal line clearance after Smith had been drawn from his line, and Smith deflected a drag-flick away from goal. The visitors did score though when a shot deflected from Smith’s pads into the net.
Petersfield were in full control of the game at the start of the second half, and the hosts scored another goal when Atkinson scored his second of the match.
The Isle of Wight then scored a second goal from a penalty corner to make it 5-2.
Petersfield responded immediately and Verney came close to scoring but was unable to deflect the ball on target on two occasions.
Petersfield continued to attack and Hughes-Stanton made it 6-2 to the home side.
Hind was denied a goal after a back-stick foul was called, but the home side scored another goal when Grinstead deflected Hughes-Stanton’s pass across goal into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick.
