New Forest had first pushback and immediately attacked. Petersfield hadn’t woken up from the long car journey and New Forest scored easily. After this initial setback Petersfield slowly warmed up to their normal speed, and Hart produced some impressive saves in the first half.

In the second half Petersfield got to their normal standard and had possession for most of the time. However, they were unable to find an equaliser. The umpire had just signed the last two minutes of play when Conran passed a long corner to Purkiss, who pushed the ball behind the goalie. The ball dropped just in front of the line, and Roberts was on hand to score the equaliser.
