LISS Athletic Junior Football Club have held their annual awards ceremony at Liss Junior School.
The club have 15 teams, comprising more than 200 children, playing league football in North East Hants and Mid Solent leagues.
The awards ceremony was very well attended with more than 500 people there.
The youngest participants were the minis, who hold their training every Saturday morning, mainly at Liss Cricket Club. They were joined by the under-seven Jaguars, who will play league games next season. These were followed by the under-eight Vikings, then the under-nines, who have three teams – the Spitfires, the Hurricanes and the Meteors. The last participants in the first half were the under-tens, who have two teams, the Panthers and the Falcons.
After a short interval the second half began. This was aimed at the older teams, starting with the under-11s, the Cobra Whites and the Cobra Blues. Then came the under-12 Eagles, followed by the under-14 Lightning and Firebolts. The under-15 Warriors were next and last up were the under-16 Firebolts and the Rockets.
Sam Waine was the proud owner of five awards. As well as receiving a team trophy for the two teams he plays in, the under-14 Lightning and Firebolts, he was also voted Players’ Player and Spectators’ Player of the year by the Firebolts team. He was also awarded Club Goalkeeper of the Season for the 11-a-side age range.
William Jenner from the under-12 Eagles was also awarded Club Goalkeeper of the Year for the nine-a-side section.
Every year the club award a trophy to the team they feel has made an outstanding effort throughout the season and this year this was awarded to the under-nine Spitfires, managed by Andy Sands. The Spitfires had won the Hampshire Cup for their age group this season.
Finally a Club Sportsmanship Trophy was awarded.
This award is based on scores received by the team from their opponents at the end of every game for overall good sportsmanship. This year the award went to the under-11 Cobras White, managed by Dan Hunt.
The youth team will not continue next season and Steve Cripps and Steve Brown were thanked for their dedication. The under-16 teams, led by Dan Cains and Ian Ford, will merge.
