PETERSFIELD Table Tennis Club picked up a victory even though they lost a game.
The A team were beaten 7-3 last Wednesday evening by a Woolmer Hill A team containing two unregistered players. The games involving these players were voided by match secretary Dick Tull following unanimous agreement from the committee that it was a breach of league rules, and the result became an 8-2 win for the A team.
The B team of Neil, Keith and Sue beat Liphook C. Sue picked up a hat-trick of wins and Neil and Keith both won two out of three games. A good doubles win for Keith and Neil cemented the result.
The C team of Ray, Henry and Catherine beat Liphook D. Catherine announced her return with a hat-trick of wins in three straight sets.
Henry played a solid match and claimed a hat-trick of wins, only struggling a little to clinch a five-setter against Jim Miles. Ray despatched the two weaker players in three straight sets, but lost to Jim. Henry and Catherine powered through the doubles in four sets to seal this convincing display.
The D team of Tom, Cliff and Marion lost 10-0 against Headley D. Marion took all three players to more than three sets, but Tom and Cliff lost all three in straight sets.
The doubles went to five sets, with Cliff and Marion giving Bob and Malcolm something to think about.
The E team of Chris, Steve and Stuart beat Haslemere H. The returning Stuart Smith clinched a hat-trick of wins, and Steve Batt bagged his first hat-trick. Captain Chris dropped two games, and the doubles saw Chris and Steve lose a thrilling five-setter.
