Petersfield & Haslemere Ne’er-Do-Wells 3 United Services Portsmouth Veterans 2: PETERSFIELD and Haslemere Ne’er-Do-Wells continued their good form with a narrow victory against United Services Portsmouth Veterans.
Within 20 minutes the Ne’er-Do-Wells were 3-0 up with goals from Richard North, Adrian Potter and a cracker from Matt Davis.
The hosts kept their shape with fine defensive midfield work from Potter, Mark Bilsland and Miron du Plessis. Julian Dean, Roberto Casabianca, Mark Blackmore and North also helped out defensively, leaving Jeroen Krens as the lone front man to trouble the opposition’s defence, which he did very effectively.
United Services struck from a short corner just before half time to make it 3-1 at the break.
The hosts had the opportunity to go 4-1 up early in the second half when a penalty flick was awarded. Potter stepped up to the spot, but was unable to score.
The visitors scored a second goal to make it 3-2, but solid work by keeper Ian Burnham and some tight marking by Richard Harvey and Steve Berry kept United Services out.
With eight minutes left Davis was yellow carded for a deliberate backstick.
Krens moved back to fill the gap in midfield but United Services pressed hard and were awarded a goal which was then scrubbed off after a consultation between the umpires.
The Ne’er-Do-Wells managed to hang on and earned a second consecutive win.
