Petersfield 3 Basingstoke II 3: PETERSFIELD hosted Basingstoke’s second team after the Christmas break.
Basingstoke immediately pressed Petersfield in their own half. Petersfield kept calm and stretched their play to avoid losing possession.
Basingstoke looked dangerous when on the ball, attempting to attack through the middle. Petersfield looked to be in control of the first half, but Basingstoke broke out from their half and squeezed a goal through a crowded goalmouth.
Petersfield equalised when a cross from J Atkinson found the diving stick of Hughes-Stanton on the far post to level the scores.
Basingstoke retook the lead, but Petersfield responded again as Edwards broke through into the circle and was tripped, which allowed Grinstead to walk to the spot and make it 2-2 at the half time whistle.
Basingstoke scored from a penalty corner in the second half, but the goal was immediately reviewed by both umpires and then disallowed due to Basingstoke interfering with play in the build-up.
Despite the disallowed goal Basingstoke then found a gap in the Petersfield defence and took the lead for a third time. A reshuffle in defence and midfield put Petersfield back in control for the last ten minutes, and a quick handed piece of skill from Hughes-Stanton allowed him to break towards the circle on the angle, where a cross to the far post was deflected into the goal by Hind.
J Atkinson nearly scored a late winner, but the Basingstoke keeper deflected the ball away from the goal.
