Salisbury II 1 Petersfield 2: PETERSFIELD travelled on a wet, rainy Saturday morning to face tenth-placed Salisbury.

The visitors nearly took the lead when Hind deflected a ball from Atkinson across the face of goal and narrowly missed the target.

Two penalty corner attempts from Atkinson were both denied and the two teams were level at 0-0 at half time.

Petersfield started the second half well but they fell behind when Salisbury built an attack on the counter and scored to take the lead.

The visitors responded well and Atkinson was brought down by the Salisbury keeper in the circle, resulting in a penalty flick.

Grinstead stepped up to the spot and levelled the scores after the keeper’s efforts were not enough to keep the ball out of goal.

The goal lifted Petersfield’s spirits and the visitors launched a number of attacks at the Salisbury goal.

The home side were holding firm until Atkinson’s strike found the goal and gave Petersfield the lead.

With a one-goal advantage Petersfield switched their style of play and bolstered their midfield to increase the breakdowns of play against the opposition.

This tactic was well worked by the whole squad and the visitors showed plenty of fight and determination across the pitch until the final whistle to hold on for the victory.

Petersfield lie in third place in the Hampshire Division 2 (Men) table, and the team has three league fixtures remaining this season.
