Petersfield 2 Alton 2: PETERSFIELD hosted local rivals Alton on Saturday, and both teams still had a chance of promotion.
Petersfield started with possession after a change of ends and soon found themselves under pressure from the opposition. Alton held a high line in a bid to frustrate the Petersfield defence, but the hosts held firm.
Petersfield went on the counter attack but the Alton keeper was on his toes and denied the home side.
Alton broke through the Petersfield defence after hard work and determination, yet keeper Smith stopped the Alton striker in his tracks with a fine save.
Alton were first to draw blood with a penalty corner routine, however, Petersfield showed their penalty corner prowess as Edwards deflected a Harris strike into the roof of the net to make the score 1-1 at half time.
Both keepers were busy in the second half, and Alton took the lead for a second time with a well-worked passing goal in the circle.
The hosts pushed hard for an equaliser, which arrived with a Hughes-Stanton flick into the bottom corner.
Petersfield had the chance to win the game when Hughes-Stanton was brought to the floor in the circle, leading to a penalty flick. Grinstead stepped up to the spot, took aim and fired towards the left-hand side of the goal, but the Alton keeper produced a fine save to keep the score at 2-2.
Petersfield host Poole in their last game of the season at 1.30pm on Saturday, April 7. A win will seal promotion for Petersfield.
