Gosport 1 Petersfield 2: PETERSFIELD travelled away to Gosport in the penultimate game before the Christmas break.

Petersfield were missing some key players but their depth proved to be of value.

The visitors created many chances and there were some near misses and some excellent saves from the Gosport goalkeeper.

Petersfield began to dominate the game in all areas of the pitch through excellent structure. J Atkinson broke the deadlock after a well struck shot gave the Gosport defence no chance to react.

Gosport attempted to break through Petersfield’s defence but they were continuously shut out by the visitors.

Petersfield kept knocking on the Gosport door with crosses sprayed across the circle and shots on goal from forwards Hall, Verney, Vickers and J Atkinson.

Gosport held their ground until quick pace and skill from Hall and Verney led to J Atkinson calmly slotting a well-placed cross into the corner, extending the lead to 2-0 at half time.

In the second half Gosport used their counter attack and long ball style of play more effectively, catching the Petersfield side off guard on occasion. The home side scored when a penalty corner routine snuck past the defensive line after the initial strike was saved.

Gosport, fuelled with a new lease of energy, came at the heart of the midfield, but Petersfield shut them out on the ground and in the air.

The visitors then regained control of the match and saw out a comfortable 2-1 win.
