Isle of Wight 1 Petersfield 1: PETERSFIELD’S men’s first team were hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the season as they travelled to the Isle of Wight.

The visitors moved the ball around well in the first half but were unable to make the breakthrough.

Petersfield continued to play well in the second half, but then the Isle of Wight won a penalty corner from a stray Petersfield foot.

The hosts scored from the penalty corner with a rocket of a drag flick into the top right-hand corner.

Petersfield continued to battle but the Isle of Wight won another penalty corner.

This time Rye and Marlow managed to run the drag flicker down enough to put him off and the home side’s effort went high and wide.

Petersfield then found a new gear and started to put the Isle of Wight under more pressure.

The equaliser arrived when Hind picked up the ball in the middle of the park and waltzed his way through the opposition and brought the ball on to the reverse side and crossed to J Atkinson.

J Atkinson connected sweetly with the ball, sending it into the back of the net.

The visitors were back on level terms, but they were unable to find a winner and the match finished 1-1.

Petersfield currently lie in fifth place in the Hampshire Area Division 2 table, and remain undefeated after winning two and drawing two of their first four matches of the season.

Petersfield are next in action on Saturday, when they will host Winchester’s third team at Dunhurst School at 1.30pm.
