City of Portsmouth 4 Petersfield 2: PETERSFIELD travelled to City of Portsmouth on the back of two defeats.

The home side started well and scored from a penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead.

Petersfield responded immediately with a fine penalty corner routine of their own to level the scores, as Terry deflected the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

Petersfield looked to push City of Portsmouth away from their own goal, build play and create their own chances.

The home team’s defence worked hard to keep Petersfield’s waves of attack at bay.

City of Portsmouth regained their lead when they scored another goal from a penalty corner, and the hosts led 2-1 at half time.

In the second half a number of City of Portsmouth players were sent to the sin bin, but Petersfield were unable to take advantage.

The home side scored a third goal to extend their lead to 3-1, but Petersfield kept their heads up and got themselves back in the game when Atkinson finished from Grinstead’s through ball to make it 3-2 after a successful move on the right-hand side of the pitch.

Petersfield put their hosts under pressure as they searched for an equaliser, but City of Portsmouth held firm and successfully countered, adding a fourth goal through a penalty corner routine to concluding the scoring at 4-2.

Petersfield will hope to return to winning ways on Saturday when the host Salisbury at Dunhurst School (1.15pm).
