Basingstoke II 0 Petersfield 2: PETERSFIELD travelled to Basingstoke on a cold, wet and windy Saturday.

Basingstoke began with the ball and immediately the midfield battle started.

Petersfield were unable to find the net as the Basingstoke keeper made some key saves. The Petersfield defence stopped the home side taking the lead, although Basingstoke came close with a handful of penalty corners in the first half.

Petersfield demonstrated their ability as they controlled the early stages of the second half and exploited specific areas which led to a smooth finish from J Atkinson to go 1-0 ahead.

Basingstoke increased the pressure yet Petersfield stood firm and the team worked together and produced some quick counter attacks which put Basingstoke on the back foot.

Petersfield doubled their advantage with ten minutes to go when J Ferrett scored from close range after the initial strike from J Atkinson was saved.

Basingstoke once again went on the attack, working the ball well around the circle and winning a penalty corner, which Petersfield defended well.

With the final whistle approaching, Alder was sent to the sin bin, forcing Petersfield to park the bus and hold possession at the nearest opportunity.

This tactic proved effective as Petersfield saw out the rest of the match to keep a clean sheet and win 2-0.

Petersfield will entertain Yateley at Dunhurst School in their next fixture this Saturday (1.15pm).
