Petersfield 2 Winchester III 5: IN THEIR final fixture of the 2016-17 season, Petersfield selected a full strength squad of 16 players for the visit from Winchester’s third team.

Both teams had already established their league position but looked forward to a close game.

Petersfield started with possession and attempted to play their own style of hockey around Winchester.

Winchester worked hard all over the field and broke down many waves of attack.

Petersfield stole the lead after Harris worked his way into the Winchester circle and fired a reverse strike towards the goal which J Atkinson deflected home.

Winchester were now a goal down and responded by upping their level of attacks.

Petersfield battled back and a battle of possession between the two sides soon developed.

Winchester got themselves on the scoreboard with a penalty corner goal, and the sides went in at half time level at 1-1.

After the break the game continued in the same vein, and both teams created chances and broke up play.

Winchester gained the upper hand in the second half as their conversion rate was better than Petersfield’s.

The only goal the home side could muster in the second half came from a Harris drag flick. Winchester helped themselves to four goals in the second half to run out 5-2 winners.

Petersfield finished the season in seventh place in the Hampshire Area Division 2 table, with 30 points from their 22 league matches.
