AN IMPRESSIVE performance by Petersfield Hockey Club’s under-12 boys saw them reach the semi finals of the Hampshire In2Hockey tournament.

The boys started slowly in their first match against New Forest, going in at half time with the scores level at 0-0. Petersfield improved in the second half and fine goals from Cullen, Young and Hulme gave them a 3-0 victory.

Petersfield faced Camberley and Farnborough in their second match and cruised to another 3-0 victory.

Petersfield faced Winchester in their final match in the group stages.

Both teams produced some good attacking hockey, but neither team could find the final touch in front of goal until a Petersfield short corner broke to Hulme who slapped it home. The game finished 2-0 to Petersfield.

Petersfield faced City of Portsmouth in the quarter finals. It was a tight game with both sides creating chances, and both keepers did their best to keep their team in the tournament.

After eight minutes the game finished 0-0 and went to penalties, which were the best of three penalty flicks.

Petersfield slotted their flicks low and into the corners, and goalkeeper Weller pulled off a fine save to send the jubilant under-12s through to the semi finals.

Petersfield faced Fleet and Ewshot in the semi finals. Petersfield defended well and escaped numerous goalmouth scares as the game finished 0-0.

Petersfield lost 2-1 in the penalty shoot-out and finished the tournament in third place.
