PETERSFIELD Hockey Club’s under-eights won silver medals at the Fareham Challenge Trophy tournament.
The Petersfield team were drawn in pool two and won all their pool games in spectacular fashion, beating Haslemere 2-0, Trojans 6-0, Trojans 5-0, City of Portsmouth 4-0, and Fareham 4-0.
With Hulme, Pattinson and Rowland providing a robust strong core, it enabled the rest of the team to hone their skills and move around the pitch like a well-oiled machine.
As well as Hulme, Pattinson and Rowland, goals also came from T Young and Scott-Plummer. The strong defence provided by Morley proved too much for the opposition as she was assisted in her defensive quest by Wiggington. In the midfield the action was provided by Stratton-Brown and E Young.
After winning the pool, Petersfield met Romsey in the semi finals. Petersfield took the lead with an early goal, but Romsey soon equalised and the game finished 1-1. Petersfield then held their nerve and won the penalty shoot-out to seal their place in the final.
Despite a valiant effort in the final, Bournemouth scored in the second half, and Petersfield had to settle for silver medals.
