PETERSFIELD Infant School has opened a football club for girls.

Yvonne Peters, who runs the club with the other staff volunteers, said: “I wasn’t sure what uptake I would get from girls for football, but when I was given a list of 70-plus names I was amazed.

“We started with the reception children who completely blew us away with their attitude and want to play football.

“These girls loved playing and learning the skills needed to work as a team. You could hear the excitement as the girls screamed in laughter throughout the whole session.

“They have enjoyed it so much we have set up a girls’ only ten-week session with Aspire Coaching.

“Next term it’s our Year 1 girls’ turn and I am pleased to say that grassroots girls’ football team is becoming more popular day by day.”

The sessions are held at Love Lane on Tuesday afternoons from 3.30-4.15pm. The cost is £1.50 per week.
